Day 23

Apr 30, 2024

You keep him in perfect peace, all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. Isaiah 26:3-4

Whenever I read this verse, my mind automatically goes to the song “Perfect Peace” by Tauren Wells. This is the song I listen to when I am stressed, anxious, or worried. It reminds me to let go of things I have no control of and, instead, give it to the Lord, who is my Rock and is completely sovereign over all things. I like how Max Lucado explained it. He said, “Sovereignty is the term the Bible uses to describe God’s perfect control and management of the universe. He preserves and governs every element. He is continually involved with all created things, directing them to act in a way that fulfills his divine purpose.”

Fear is normal. We all feel scared at one point or another. You may be scared of the dark, heights, or even fish. There is fear of failure, rejection, or losing someone. The pattern with each of these fears, and all fear for that matter, is that we feel we do not have full control of the situation. When we have control, we are calm. But when control is taken from us, worry clouds our minds. We freak out because our life is no longer in our hands. Despite this, the fact is, we cannot control everything. We do not have power over other people’s actions or other events that happen. Certainty is not a reality. In this world, there is nothing we can be certain of. But we can be certain of God’s omnipotence and his omniscience. We can be completely certain that he has power over everything and he knows everything. We can be certain that he is all sovereign. We know all this because his perfect Word says so and because of the testimonies we hear of his goodness.

Matthew 6:24 tells us that worry and anxiousness is not of the Lord. God sees the strongholds and giants that are in our lives. He has put us in this exact position for a specific reason. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” He wants us to walk in freedom. We are not meant to carry the burden of anxiety, worry, or fear. It is just too much. It weighs us down and it prevents us from experiencing the best of what God has for our lives. Since God is all sovereign, we can trust him completely. We are not in control but he is. If we fully surrender our situation, God will exchange our worry for his perfect peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding. Through trusting God and giving him full control, we will finally be able to experience a life without worry. Everything is in the Lord’s hands.

Reflection

What fears could be stopping you from experiencing God’s best for your life? Are you ready to completely surrender to the Lord and exchange your worry from his overwhelming, perfect peace?
