Ephesians 2:10

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

The story of Pinocchio is an interesting tale. A craftsman, Geppetto, creates a wooden puppet for companionship. With a wish on a star the puppet comes to life. Pinocchio spends the rest of the story looking for purpose in his new-found life. The further away from Geppetto that Pinocchio goes the less he resembles how we was created. If you haven’t seen the movie or read the book it is a must read, however the rest of the story will be a spoiler.

Pinocchio runs so far from Geppetto he finds himself in the belly of a whale. Geppetto goes on a long adventure to find Pinocchio and bring him home. In the end, Geppetto prevails and Pinocchio turns from a puppet into a real boy.

There are many similarities between this story and our spiritual journeys. We have been made and crafted together by God’s hand. The further we run from Him the less we look like our true selves. Ephesians reminds us that we are 100% God’s workmanship. When we walk in Christ we live to the fullness of our potential.

Because we are God’s workmanship, He has good works for us to be about. Our spiritual journey does not have to ebb and flow with spiritual highs and lows when we become the piece of work God has created. Like Pinocchio we sometimes choose the hard way. But God cares too much for us to not chase us down. Remember you are a piece of work…and you have work to do.
