Day 4 - Thursday, January 12, 2023

Ephesians 2:4

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us.”

The greatest enemy we face is usually the person staring back at us in the mirror. How we feel about ourselves and think about ourselves sets the path for not just our day but our spiritual life. If we think less of ourselves, we will think less of God who created us. Self-destructive belief leads us to a view of God that is unbiblical.

Many times, we can think God is a score keeper. He weighs out our good behaviors and bad behaviors. If we just are good enough then maybe God will love us, accept us, see us more. This view of God leads many people to disqualify themselves from finding any kind of joy, peace, or love.

It’s time for a “But God” moment. A “But God” moment is when we see ourselves in the way God sees us. When we are in Christ, God looks at us through the work of Jesus. So, when we make mistakes, have failures, don’t hit the mark we say “But God.”

Try this:

“I didn’t pray enough this week, BUT God who is rich in mercy, because of His great love.”

“I’m struggling to forgive, BUT God who is rich in mercy, because of His great love.”

“My thoughts have not been good, I am not good enough, BUT God who is rich in mercy, because of His great love.”

When we have a “But God” moment we put the focus on where it should always be: on God. If we live with a “But God” attitude, we will live free in 2023!
