Colossians 2:13-15

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. and having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

The number one fear in the world- more than death- is the fear of public speaking. The thought of having to get in front of people and be vulnerable, stresses people out. In fact, as you read that first sentence a cold sweat might have hit you. The reality is there is an aversion to being made a public spectacle. Yet that is exactly what is needed. Not for us to be made a public spectacle, but for the enemy to be made one.

Have you ever taken the time to really think about your position in Jesus? Think about this: before Jesus, you were dead in your sin. There was no life, not really any hope, just an existence of trying to “survive” in this world. What drives this reality is outside of Jesus, there is a spiritual charge being lobbied against us. Every action, every mistake, every mishap is condemning our every moment by the enemy. Yuck!

But God has made us alive in Jesus. This is your position now! You are in Christ and alive in him. He has taken away not just your sin (which is huge!) but every charge, every condemnation, every guilty verdict and nailed them to the cross. When God looks at you, He must look through the grace and work of Jesus. You are not a public spectacle…but there is one still.

In taking care of your condemnation and bringing you to life Jesus made the enemy and condemnation both public spectacles. He has brought extreme ridicule to them. Jesus being nailed to a cross did not stay there, however left your failures, sins, loneliness, guilt, condemnation, and every other spiritual charge nailed to the cross. You do not have to simply “survive” this life. You can thrive knowing the enemy has been made a public spectacle and you are ALIVE in Christ!
